Youtube, the worlds most popular video sharing site, recieved a killer update today which allows a significantly greater degree of user customization and even some slick Google + integration. However, jsut like the new facebook timelines, it isnt live on the new site unless you do a little tweaking. Don’s worry too much, its super easy, and here is how to do it (in Firefox and Chrome anyways):

In Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + K (Win) | Cmd + Shift + K (Mac)
In Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + J (Win) | or Cmd + Alt + J (Mac)

Then add this string of code to the developer console: document.cookie=”VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=ST1Ti53r4fU”; — now close your development tools and refresh, zing!!. Now you will see the new main page the folks at Google/YouTube have built for us. Not to bad at all we would say, and a marked improvement o nthe mess that was the old YouTube.

Here’s what’s new:

Welcome Tour: Once you get the new design, a message will pop up, prompting you to take a tour.
Channel Activity: Clicking a channel’s name in the left-most column will bring up its recent activity in the center column.
You can add your favorite channels to the left-most column of your new homepage.
YouTube will suggest other channels to subscribe to based on the videos you’ve watched.
Subscribe to at least three channels to fill up your column, then return to the homepage for some easy video viewing.
